Healthy habits that can help prevent breast cancer & heart disease.

I've listed 4 of the most important, yet simple ways you can change your lifestyle for the better. You may not want to take on all of these things at once, but if you slowly work these things in to your routines, they are totally doable!

Try a new one of these steps each day, each week, or each month! You CAN do it!

1. Exercise

  • Exercise controls weight: It’s important to keep your body at a healthy, constant weight.

  • Exercise fights many health conditions and diseases: it lowers your chances of heart disease, breast cancer, diabetes, depression, and high blood pressure! No matter your weight, it helps manage many different health concerns.

  • Exercise improves your mood: it helps you blow off steam, relieve stress, and more. It literally stimulates your brain chemicals which makes you happier and more relaxed!

  • Exercise does so much! It helps you feel better about your appearance and helps with confidence, it boosts your energy, it promotes better sleep, and more.

Stop dreading it, just do it! You may actually like it.

2. Eat a well-balanced diet

Make sure your diet consists of:

  • Fruits

  • Vegetables

  • Whole Grains

  • Proteins

  • Dairy

  • Oils

A well balanced diet helps your body best protect itself from diseases and conditions. If the wrong nutrients are going in your body, your body will weaken and it will become more difficult to fight these things off.

So learn how to achieve a balanced diet now!

3. Limit your alcohol consumption

I know, I know… for some of you this doesn’t sound particularly exciting, especially for some of you college students. But, I didn’t say “DON”T drink!” Instead, just limit your intake. Some good ways for you to do this include;

  • Alternate alcoholic drinks with non-alcoholic drinks (this will help with hangovers too!)

  • Always eat when you’re going to be drinking!

  • Choose alcohol with lower alcohol percentages. Different brands have different percentages, for example, some beer might be 4%, while others, 8%.

  • Pace yourself! The alcohol isn’t going anywhere, you don’t have to down 5 drinks in your first 5 minutes out.

  • Find something you actually like, drink slowly, sip and enjoy it!

4. Don’t smoke!

This means anything. Our bodies are not made for any type of smoke. Not:

  • Cigarettes

  • Vapes

  • Marijuana

  • Etc.

It can lead to ongoing effects in your body, including:

  • Mood changes

  • Anxiety & irritability

  • Unhealthy teeth

  • Cancer

  • Poor vision

  • Loss of appetite

  • High cholesterol

  • Blood clotting

  • Etc.

If you smoke and have a problem quitting, please check out some ways to help you quit. There are many options, find the one that’s right for you.
